Synopsis:-

In This Month’s Issue:

Firstly, happy New Year! Here’s to another enjoyable 12 months of photography; there’s so much to look forward to in 2010 in the photographic world, and where better place to start than with the January issue of OP…

Get inspired to broaden your horizons and take your photography to the next level by checking out our veritable feast of amazing images from last year’s Travel Photographer of The Year competition. You never know you may be this year’s winner…Or if wildlife is more your thing, the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2010 competition is now open, and with exciting new categories available and £20,000 worth of prizes up for grabs – be sure to check out our run down on how to enter on page 51. We also cover another hugely exciting opportunity on the same page: entering the 2020 Vision Conservation Award. The result of winning this worthy award is life changing – don’t miss your chance!

From awards to the heady heights of some of the world’s most magnificent mountains, meet adventure photographer and triumphant climber of Mount Everest, Jimmy Chin – a photographer literally living on the edge.

Closer to home but no less thrilling, this month’s Viewpoints traverse Lairig Gartain in the Scottish Highlands, Cumbria’s most famous stone circle, Castlerigg, and the stunning Lake District, plus this month’s On location posse soak up calm coastal scenes at Marloes Sands.

Light: ever-changing but always mesmorising, feeds our photography in each and every form it takes, and yet, is a difficult thing to master. It also has habit of being short in supply. From dusk to dawn, Lee Frost gives the low down on low light photography (page 22).

With awards to shoot for and a challenge to practise shooting in low light, you’re probably already raring to get out in the field. Before you go though: be prepared. Judy Armstrong has tested the best insulated jackets (page 73) and OP’s editor, Steve Watkins, has tested the TrekPod Go Pro (page 79), plus if it’s a new camera your after, check out Andy Luck’s Canon EOS 7D test (page 85).

As ever, there’s just too much great stuff in the mag to flag up here, but rest assured that the January issue of OP is a sure-fire way of kick starting 2010 with a bang. Enjoy!
