Synopsis:-
Bill Kirkbright’s sofa table requires skill with some varied techniques and to this end he explains the principles behind his joint choices, does some veneering and explains how to turn the stretcher. David Barron considers contrasting effects when he makes three dovetailed and bridle-jointed boxes with six different woods. Michael Huntley continues his Tight Joints series with a detailed look at the first cabinet maker’s joint, the mortice and tenon, and starts a new series which will build up to a thorough guide to polishing. John Bullar puts a veneer hammer in the hands of his journeyman and Alan Holtham gets troubleshooting with planer/thicknessers. We take a look at Scott & Sargeant’s traditional and modern machines and test a Sedgwick planer/thicknesser plus a Warco lathe, Record bobbin sander, framesaw from Dick Fine Tools, Mafell 2200W router and a neat 12V drill from Ryobi. In addition we hope that you will appreciate our celebration of the life of F&C founding editor Paul Rich
