Synopsis:-
This month we start an important new series called Tight Joints, aimed at introducing key fine furniture-making skills to those who are bridging the gap between good woodworking and cabinet making, and reinforcing knowledge for those who are already fairly confident. Michael Huntley kicks off by introducing half-lap joints and discussing when you would use them and their variants. Of course traditional joints cannot be made without a good sharp chisel. Michael is joined by Rob Stoakley and Mark Baker who test 16 of the best 1in tools in three quality bands, and they don’t mince their words. John Bullar tells his Journeyman about the beauty of quartered oak and makes a ray-figured cabinet with this delightful timber.
